By appleFan I usually get drives based on WD but their portable 1TB drives have custom cable so if you lose it your SOL. I decided to try this drive for my macbook pro and it's perfect. Got 3 more for my family so everyone now has 1tb to use for timemachine, storage etc. Format most of it for Mac OSX but some for fat32 so i can swap files with windows people. 4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Truly portable and sleek By D. Mccauley For one, I get to carry it wherever I go. This way I am sure my critical data is with me and will not be tampered. I am a frequent buyer of portable drives because of the nature of my job. And Iomega has never disappointed me till date! This time I got to purchase the Iomega eGo 500 GB USB 2 portable hard drive 34945. My office mate has this drive and I was really impressed by its design, the color and its ultrathin mold. Immediately checked different web sites to know the dimension of this device and it was just 2.1 x 7 x 5.1 inches! A true portable hard drive indeed and also installs quick. The silver color of this hard drive matches perfectly with my MacBook Air notebook. The compactness allows me to carry it anywhere but with the risk of dropping it. With the Drop guard, it is safe if the fall is a short one less than 5 ft. For Mac users, there is Trend Micro and I am worry free for atleast a year. The software is not a part of the package but has to be downloaded. I use the QuickProtect as I do not wanna miss any opportunity for safe backups. 6 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Disappointing By Dee L.A. Bought this to do a long overdue back-up of my PowerMac before upgrading to the Snow Leopard OS. The drive worked fine the first week I had it, while running Mac OS 10.5, but since the upgrade to 10.6.3 the eGo drive will not mount. iOmega tech support says the drive is not getting enough power from my laptop. To "accommodate" me, they're sending the dual-USB connector cable they say the drive needs in 7 - 10 business days. I'm not sure why the drive worked originally and then stopped or why iOmega would say it needs a dual connector but package it with a single. All in all, a disappointing performance from a portable hard drive allegedly designed to work with Mac laptops. See all 21 customer reviews...
