Fast, quiet and stable rsinj My use of these devices is to replace a couple of older units in five aged 80 GB in Windows XP and XP Media Center machines. These devices continue to function well, but the price I had absolutely no reason not to upgrade right now. I came across this half of the last week and Amazon sold it new for $ 29 - "What is wrong with these units," which scratched my head thinking "what's the problem" and certainly, though they were over $ 25, Amazon will charge still for shipping - so I took two to get the device to send down a bit. The old version 3 GB of this unit was sold for over $ 40 - again, scratching their heads over this. Perhaps it was a price error? No matter - it was a good price. The packaging units arrived yesterday all my usual OEM WD six have come in the last nine months. I Clonezilla on the old drive to the new clone, it went smoothly without any problems, I keep the old drive just in case these new problems I did not need to create new drives to the system from the ground up. I know that the motherboard in my machine can not use, the throughput is 6 GB, these drives but definitely faster than what they replace - older WD drives, they show 7200 and 3GB. Specs must specify performance on older drives do not be so different, but it is and for the better. I will not question. Blue Drive WD 1T - So far so good. Fred Wampler I bought the Western Digital 1 TB SATA 6.0 0 Gb-s 32 MB Cache OEM WD10EALX 35-inch internal hard naked memory making the Midwest through Amazon. The unit was received within 3 or 4 days and was very well packaged. My Seagate first time in my HP m9550F failed and was replaced by WD. Seagate is the unit that HP sent after a bios disk error was known very well. Internet Information showed that many people lose valuable information because HP is constantly sending the unit to a known problem. Anyway, I got a BIOS update for Seagate, before that, but it did not anyway. WD10EALX unit is quite noisy. I still have to drive out of the box so that they can contribute to the sound level. The noise seems to be the head movement. The turn card is silent. For the price, is a unit that is hard to beat and I am very happy with it. My bios can not take advantage of the transfer speed of 6 Gb / s, but the car is very fast, the same way. I uploaded about 600 GB of data after about three weeks, I presume that it does not fail and put things back together. If this fails, I will update this review. I've noticed some imperfections in NewEgg reported. Not in the long term, but more likely the case. Here's keeping my fingers crossed. (Hangs on the boot disk is a pain). UPDATE: OK. Large storage, but delayed by Steve I have tons of WD drives and have been around for some time (including two 2 TB green drive), so I decided to give it a chance, even with the ratings of the half / half was. This device is great! He hit it in my eSATA dock, turned, and Windows Disk Management saw at once, with the full ~ 2.7tb. The boots, and be sure to choose GPT and then formatted. Saw the entire Windows partition without problems. To test drive, I did a low level format, then a disk check. When they both came back good, I copied many files as I could fit on the disk, and then made another disk check. He came back well again, so I ran to see what speeds I was getting disc marks. When the unit was nearly full (~ 3 GB free), I was averaging around 30-40Mbps. after I formatted and ran the test again, I average ~ 60Mbps. Compare that with a smaller hard drive and you will see that it is significantly slower (I drove tryouts for a full-WD 500GB drive that is about 5 years old and average 80 Mbps) is 30Mbps much speed for streaming movies which is what I use it for. This drive is not the best boot drive, but it makes a huge archive. Since I have only owned it for about a week now, I can not comment on long-term reliability, but I'll update if anything happens. By Drake Johnson This is a reliable, quiet, cool-running, big SATA III HD. I have this drive to WMC (Windows Media Center) PVR. It took a lot of space on your hard disk, but it must remain very small and really cool in one package. If the speed (like me) put a small SSD drives in your system for the operating system, use the WD Green drives for storage. Something to consider: The 25 TB WD Green ad 3 used a bit more power (heat) and has a faster transfer rate. Download spec sheet Western Digital for more information about it. I did not know that I had tried to pass. This make sure the right connections for this CD - it's the SATA III, which is also called SATA 6 Gbps (gigabit per second, abbreviated, not gigabytes, Go Go is not the difference is a factor of 8 is ..) Have a good trip, potentially misleading claims by Mark Colan This disc has a large capacity (compared to today's standards) and is very portable. It is comfortable and well tolerated, not fast, but not slower than others in its class. I seriously doubt the claim that buying a USB 3.0 adapter for the drive is significantly accelerated, and definitely not 10x. I discussed this issue further below. [Updated 10/08/10] See below. A discussion in the comments has convinced me that the optional adapter can really make a difference for the transfer of large files like videos, but not a 10-differential. Advantages: high capacity portable hard disk by today's standards, small and not too heavy, similar to competing products USB 2.0 0 offers great compatibility (Windows, Mac, Linux drivers where available) alternatives available interfaces (eSATA, USB3, Firewire), USB port provides power so no power adapter required very standard connector on both ends of the USB cable compatible with Windows and Mac, Linux, and probably (not tested) [Updated] ability to connect directly to your TV for playback of audio and video without a computer using the new pond [see below] CONS: misrepresentation of the value of changing cables [Update: Perhaps not see updates below] is slightly larger and heavier gloss attracts WD Passport hand (such as a passport) black case is hard to find in my backpack black computer, but probably other colors will be available in the near future NEUTRAL: not fast not slow, more or less as competitive products, slower than desktop drives or more drives, 3.5 "external, but the speed of much more portable drive running at 5400 rpm. This is not as fast as most desktop hard disks (that's 7200 rpm), but 5400 rpm saves power and cooler, it may be that the 7200 RPM hard drives can not be used for an application like this without power. Large units make great records and archiving devices do not need as fast as the devices your system, applications and files you use contain. I copied my audio collection - more than 50,000 files totaling 383 GB - to this device, which is low, and (separately) to an empty 500 GB WD Passport drive that had recently made. Both units took about the same time: just over 7 hours with Windows 7 reports 16-18 MB / second. The pass was a little faster, but not enough to make a difference. REMOVABLE Interface: dubious value, misinformation [see UPDATE in this section] The accompanying "Personality Cable" make this device for use with USB 2.0. You can use the second for USB 3.0 0 and eSATA, and claim that this will speed the performance up to 10 times that I tried to be true, but I sincerely doubt this is true. You see, USB 2.0 is capable of 57 MB / sec, however, my car goes up to 16-17 MB / s, so that is occurring in only 29% of the maximum speed of USB 2.0. I use and have used SSD with SLC and MLC flash JMicron controller, controller, Samsung, Barefoot-controller and controller SandForce 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. I have used several generations of birds of prey and 3ware RAID controller. I'm not saying that to brag, I say that to emphasize that I have a reasonable basis for comparison and expectation. Next level of hard drive Hitachi 3TB size 64MB cache 7200 rpm SATA III PB by the car in the last week from Amazon / J & R. lowest price that I watched so far on this CD for weeks to see the prices down on the entire Web. Paid $ 179.00 including shipping and no tax. Would any of the four replacement 2TB Hitachi 7200 rpm drive in a MacPro August 2008 3.0Mhz basis. First, an external drive connected to the computer e-SATA card from Highpoint E-Sata PCI for Mac 4-way with the hard naked on my desk. Hard booted well formatted with the GUID Disk Utility & w / 3 partitions. A start-up partition cloned w / CCC and two separate data CDs used as virtual memory. Hitachi 2TB former was the hard-court run to the right to believe, because four of them are in the MacPro. Anyway, the drive had on my desk for several hours to copy data for the cloning / etc never really too hot at all. I usually just run on my desktop in a similar manner to hear and feel the warm and strong units are actually this album, in my opinion is the quietest drive I've seen (except for a SSD LOL). Although continuous copy she had to put your ear to what actually hear anything. Not notice any real speed difference on this point since the peak e-SATA bus is probably about 20% slower than the bus to board the SATA motherboard. Excellent hard drive for PS3 and laptop computers with NiteWalker the first time the existence of two product listings for this drive, both identical except for the ASIN number. One was listed as independent, the other as shown in the Western Digital Scorpio Blue page with drop-down menu of all different size hard disks in the series. I have no idea what the difference is. Amazon, for some reason, won the 500 GB quote from the dropdown menu and now has its own page. Strangely, they chose that direction. It would have made more sense for the individual to delete. Ok, this is for PS3 owners / upgrade. This unit fits beautifully on PS3 and runs cool without problems. For the price you can not go wrong. I have 40 GB PS3 (Spider Man 3 package) and data (store + system) on about 10 games and I had almost no space. I have a lot of research on different SATA 2.5 5 portable drives' free I tried all the different brands and criticism and rates vs. size. I came to the conclusion that a disk is made of 500 GB for $ 100 a bargain considering the extra space, so that was the direction I am. Of all the brands seemed Western Digital Scorpio Blue series with the positive comments about the least comments indicating the failure have a hard drive, it is the one I chose. The installation was very easy after a backup of my data. The longest part of the whole procedure was backing up and restoring data. I will not go into details, but I recommend the software used to format a further review of external hard drives larger than 32GB in the FAT32 file system. This is called "fat32format." It works very good and very fast (less than 4 seconds for a 120 GB external hard drive). Just follow the instructions and you're good. I did this because to recognize for the PS3, the external drive to the FAT32 file system must be formatted. Concerning the process of updating the PS3, just google "hard drive upgrade the PS3" and get tons of video tutorials and now here's one important thing: A lot of people have improved their PS3 and saw xxx/465 GB free after the update without realizing that this is not the fault of the PS3. You can put the same drive on a laptop and has the same 465GB. This is because manufacturers announced a gigabyte as something other than windows or PS3 recognize. Manufacturers see a gigabyte (GB) 1000 megabytes and a megabyte (MB) 1000 kilobytes (KB), when in fact Windows is 1 MB to 1024 MB. So that is where the missing space is lost. So from now on, my opinion is that this unit is a great option for updates to PS3. If you do not want to drop a bill on the 500 GB version of the blues also have Scorpio in smaller sizes at discounted prices.
