(I think Seagate wants to use it for movies - more on that below). So far I have found to work without problems, with some caveats: Pros: - My laptop (WinXP) sees it as a hard drive so I can drag and drop objects directly on my player, and able to extract the WinZip file of drives in a different folder on disk, and things are moving in general. - Powered USB Power, no need for a power cable - Transfer speed upload (USB2) from my internal hard drive is a little more than a concert than a minute to MP3 - I moved 18GB of music, in rows of two five Megs each, in just over 17 minutes, and 5 gigabytes of audiobooks in the zip file up to 300meg, in 4.5 minutes. This could change the disk becomes more fragmented. Disadvantages: It is not an external drive as a unit in one case. The "GoFlex" connector (not shown in picture) is a bus adapter to USB adapters, and others are available (Seagate USB Cable Upgrade GoFlex 30 - STAE104). This is ideal for file sharing, and perhaps in time to put multiple drives in a jukebox brick or desk, it means that there is a third bit electronics from the USB cable and run, with all the crime and the potential loss it entails. The connection was already a little shaky right of the box, although I note that the closures are metal, not plastic, which blocks. (The disc says "Made in Thailand and assembled in China" Sheesh). I decided not to install the backup software, so I can not comment on it. Movies: Seagate to use this device for movies (and one of the adapters GoFlex sent directly to a compatible TV). And to that end, my drive preloaded with about 45 gigabytes of movies for Paramount. They are not free, but only pre-installed, with the promise of a free Star Trek: Reboot the computer when you register the device I have the Star Trek movie (a short series of hoops, including agreeing to share my data the rescue "suppliers," two different EULA - Seagate and Paramount, according to a Microsoft DRM and registration in the Paramount case I want to buy more). I notice that the films seem to be $ 10 or $ 15 each, so they do not contain any bonus material (as opposed to my Star Trek DVD), and "buy" a movie you get three "permits" - try to play ST : R of the Seagate drive in another laptop that has led to a pop-up asking if I wanted a different license to download, so I think the licenses are associated with the individual computer, not unity. (In an additional loss of geek creds, the software automatically record came as the IE browser.) Fortunately, the films can be removed. 56 of 57 people found the following review helpful. Seagate 1 TB hold! Honestly from Vidsavage to make this easier, here are some steps you can follow, because I think it's the best of the mainstream 3 external 25 "drives (Toshiba, Western Digital and Seagate). 1. Why bother with the software in the first place ? simply reformat the drive or remove the software. Sure, it's a little 'annoying to have 40 gigabytes of space by turning right on the box, but it's really the only major source of concern for the unity? 2. Now for the USB cable. from the multitude of variations 1 TB USB 3.0 drives I've tried every manufacturer has the same length of rope. If you want a longer cable, and either ask how it is possible that different disk from the USB cable, then why did you buy this particular external hard drive? this model is not for you if you are not the kind of person to go. I mean, if you do not drag your external drive around, why not go and buy a 3.5 powered 5 "external hard drive model for the same price as this and have twice the space? 3 How to build.
