Large storage devices, but decreased the speed of Steve and I have tons of WD drives have been around for a while '(two 2TB' green 'units), so I decided to give this option with a half / half ratings they had. This unit is fantastic! Popped in my Dock eSATA is on and the windows Disk Management has seen the same thing all ~ 2.7tb. Initialized as you choose GPT, and then formatted. Windows has seen the entire partition, no hassle. To test the device, I did a low level format, so a disk check. When both came back fine, I copied all the files that I could fit on the disk, and then did another check disk. He came back fine, so I ran to see what I was disc field speed. When the disk was nearly full (~ 3 GB free), I was averaging around 30-40 Mbps. after I formatted and ran the test again, I have an average of ~ 60MBps. Compare that with a smaller hard drive and you will see that it is significantly slower (I drove tryouts for a full-WD 500GB drive that is about 5 years old and average 80 Mbps) is 30Mbps much speed for streaming movies which is what I use it for. This drive is not the best boot drive, but it makes a huge archive. Since I have only owned it for about a week now, I can not comment on long-term reliability, but I'll update if anything happens. Currently, I recommend this drive. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Need space - Perfect need for speed, add a SSD ... By Drake Johnson This is a reliable, quiet, cool-running, big SATA III HD. I have this drive to WMC (Windows Media Center) PVR. It took a lot of space on your hard disk, but it must remain very small and really cool in one package. If the speed (like me) put a small SSD drives in your system for the operating system, use the WD Green drives for storage. Something to consider: The 25 ads 3TB WD Green drives use a little more power (heat) and a slightly faster transfer rate. Download the fact sheet for more information about Western Digital. I did not know until I tried to move on. Next, make sure have the right connections for this record - it was the third which is also called SATA SATA 6 Gbps (Gigbits per second, not gigabytes, which is abbreviated Go Go is not the difference is a factor of 8 ..) If this is confusing, then ask someone to help with the case on the right. It can be as hot as the old hard drive (which was made by Hitachi) and is very quiet and seems to work very well and is supposed to be faster and consume less electricity. I guess I do not get so hot that it comes to using less electricity, but I can not tell if it's fast or not. Honestly, it seems the same speed as my old hard drive was fast enough not to cause.
