Great way to add drives to a server...if you have lots of power cords By Ralph Once this is installed, which isn't that hard but it slightly painful because of all the individual connectors for each bay. I understand why each bay need a sata connector. I'm not sure why it needs a power connector.Anyway. It works well. Isn't quite as 'solid' as I would have liked. But it does seem to function quite well.All in all I recommend this product. It takes a little longer to install if you like to neaten up your internal cables because there are so many. But the ability to just slide a drive in instead of mounting it to a carrier is quite a nice feature. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Best SATA enclosure available By Sam Bleadon I have been using this enclosure for some time and I think it is the greatest. Makes loading HDD's very easy and quick. I am using this in my home built Windows Home Server. Gives you the opportunity to clone your HDD and keep it as a spare and when your operating system crashes just pop in your cloned drive and you are up and running in seconds. StarTech also makes a three bay and a one bay enclosure that may make more sense for most folks. I agree with the other reviewer that too many (5) power connectors are required to hook up all four drives and the fans, seems crazy. This unit takes up three 5.25 inch bays. If you are someone who changes HDD's often or even once-in-while this unit is for you. Finally, trayless SATA enclosures By Brett Edward Sherman SATA drives were designed so they could be pushed into an enclosure. I have no idea why it took so long for a manufacture to make a tray less enclosure, maybe because they made more money selling trays. This works well. Buy a new SATA drive, open the door, slide it in. Easy. Just a couple gripes. I wish there was a power switch for each drive, if you don't want a drive on, you have to eject it. That makes for a lot of unnecessary insertions which could wear the enclosure out faster. Also it requires a lot of connections in the back. I don't understand why one power plug can't supply power to the entire unit. Instead you need 5 4-pin molex connectors to power it. Also the HDD LED has to be manually connected.
